Hamilton revealed his surprising choice to leave Mercedes, the team where he secured six of his seven Formula One world titles. The 40-year-old donned a suit on Monday for a photo in front of team founder Enzo Ferrari’s office, posing next to a Ferrari supercar.
The seven-time champion joins Ferrari on the eve of his 40th birthday on 7 January as team-mate to Charles Leclerc, the strongest driver line-up on the grid.
“There are some days that you know you’ll remember forever, and today, my first as a Ferrari driver, is one of those days,” Hamilton wrote on Instagram.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved things in my career I never thought possible, but part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realise that dream today.”
