Chappell Roan made a striking appearance at the 2025 Grammy Awards, showcasing a stunning outfit that perfectly complemented her enchanting theme. Chappell not only dazzled on the red carpet but also took home an award, marking a significant milestone in her career.
The rising star and her stylist, Genesis Webb, at the Grammy 2025, stick to a loose rodeo clown theme, from her red carpet look to her dramatic performance of “Pink Pony Club.” “Chappell established rodeo clown as the thematic foundation for the performance, which provided a conceptual starting point. She shared a Pinterest board of reference images, primarily featuring Galliano and Guo Pei,” Webb tells Vogue. “Think theatrical silhouettes, rich color palettes, and couture. That set the tone for something dramatic, whimsical, and visually commanding.”
For the red carpet, Chappell revisited the archives and chose a finale look from Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring 2003 couture collection, originally modeled by Mariacarla Boscono. This eye-catching outfit showcased vibrant strokes of canary yellow and robin’s egg blue tulle on the bodice, embellished with three-dimensional flowers and berries, along with black velvet straps. The skirt flowed into an asymmetrical shape, featuring prints of Degas’s iconic ballerinas.
Chappell wore her signature red hair with the original runway headpiece but changed the black velvet choker for a light blue one that matched her dress. She added opera gloves with the tips cut off to show off her gold-tipped nails. Instead of the yellow button heels, she chose round-toed yellow and black boots with turquoise details from John Fluevog.
During the ceremony, Chappell transformed into her second couture outfit of the evening. Drawing inspiration from look 8 of his fall 2024 couture collection, Thom Browne designed a blue wool and silk cropped jacket with visible shoulder pads, paired with a blue corded lace corset and a tiered, hand-pleated asymmetrical petticoat.
Chappell Roan, who received six Grammy nominations, including album of the year and best new artist, performed on stage wearing custom designs by Zana Bayne and Steve Madden boots. Her performance of “Pink Pony Club” featured a rodeo clown-inspired theme. “For this Grammy performance look I combined aspects of all the silhouettes we’ve done on her in the last year and make a ‘super Chappell’ look,” Bayne tells Vogue. “Throughout the costume are special details to bring the rodeo clown princess fantasy into reality, with everything crafted in my downtown Los Angeles studio.”
Chappell won the Grammy for Best New Artist wearing a gray dress adorned with bows from Acne Studios’ spring 2025 collection. She maintained the princess theme from her performance with a yellow Piers Atkinson hennin.
