(PREAH SIHANOUK, AUGUST 28, 2025) – Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Bridgette L. Walker led U.S. Embassy diplomats, officials and local Cambodian staff to Preah Sihanouk Province from August 26-30 to commemorate 75 years of U.S.-Cambodia diplomatic relations through a series of impactful engagements during “Embassy Week Sihanoukville 2025: 75 Years of Partnership and Friendship”.
This initiative brings the U.S. Embassy to Preah Sihanouk Province to honor the shared values and vision that have defined the enduring partnership between the United States and Cambodia since 1950. The week-long program focused on advancing economic opportunities, enhancing health and security, supporting and preserving Cambodia’s cultural heritage, and engaging Cambodia’s youth
The Chargé d’Affaires and embassy officials representing six U.S. government agencies met with the provincial governor Mang Sineth to strengthen bilateral relations and reinforce economic ties. They also unveiled a plaque to commemorate the 75th anniversary at National Road 4, a vital roadway constructed by the United States in 1959 to connect the port of Sihanoukville with the rest of the country.

“This milestone is a testament to the strength of the U.S.-Cambodia relationship and the shared commitment to building a brighter future together,” said Chargé d’Affaires Walker. “Embassy Week Sihanoukville reflects our dedication to fostering meaningful connections throughout the Kingdom and creating opportunities that benefit both nations.”
Highlights of the “Embassy Week Sihanoukville 2025: 75 Years of Partnership and Friendship” include expanding economic partnerships and business opportunities and connecting American and Cambodian business leaders. To enhance safety, security, and health cooperation, Embassy officials delivered capacity-building training to Sihanoukville law enforcement and security personnel and visited U.S.-funded lifesaving HIV treatment facilities.
To promote youth engagement and educational exchanges, Chargé Walker headlined a Youth Town Hall to hear directly from young people, share information about U.S.-funded opportunities to learn English, study in the United States, participate in exchange programs, and provide accurate information about the visa process. Chargé Walker also announced grand prize winners of an English Essay Contest on the future of bilateral relations for university and high school students in Preah Sihanouk Province.
Building on the United States’ longstanding support for cultural heritage preservation and the arts, the Embassy screened the film “Loot: A Story of Crime and Redemption,” which tells the story of how the United States facilitated repatriation of sacred Cambodian artifacts, accompanied by a panel featuring U.S. embassy officials, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and the filmmakers.
“Embassy Week Sihanoukville 2025: 75 Years of Partnership and Friendship” underscores the United States’ commitment to supporting Cambodia’s development and prosperity while celebrating the rich history of cooperation between the two nations. These efforts not only advance shared goals but also reinforce America’s leadership in promoting global stability, economic growth, and security.
